GROW TALLER AND THINNER
Sinking into your hips can cause problems. Lift up and out to build posture power.
Mary and Fred began their walking program to combat middle age spread. They were young grandparents but the years had settled around their middles. After 3 months of walking 4 - 5 days a week and watching their diet, they weren't trimming down or loosing weight. They were loosing motivation. So they came to see us. Taking a health history, we learned that both Mary and Fred experienced a shortness of breath and poor digestion. Fred had nagging low back pain. Mary had headaches and hip pain. "We laugh at ourselves, waddling along so slowly, "said Mary. There must be more to walking than this. We led Mary and Fred through a Stride Analysis. They had poor posture. Their upper body weight settled heavily into their torsos and hips. Their legs weren't free for powerful action. They had little push off power. We taught Mary and Fred a decompression exercise called the Short Shirt Pull. They learned to grow taller by pulling off an imaginary shirt. They could feel the results immediately. The more Short Shirt Pulls they did, the more they trained the muscles in their torso to keep them lifted. Their bellies looked flatter immediately. Both noticed they could breath more comfortably and they began to pick up their speed. Mary and Fred also learned to lift out of their hips to walk faster. As they remained lifted, they noticed more flexibility and rotation in their mid section. They were getting a better workout where they wanted it most. After our sessions together, Mary and Fred practiced walking and stretching dynamically using our audio tape. When they returned two months later they laughingly reported "Our waddles have turned into swivels and our middles have shriveled. " Their back and hip pain disappeared. They were breathing better, had more energy and better digestion. Mary's headaches decreased and they enjoyed more flexibility. " It's easier to play with the grandkids, and with each other," Fred said, winking at his wife. Mary giggled, "We're definitely enjoying our trimmer figures."
